About Cheaha State Park

The foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, surrounded by the Talladega National Forest, have a reputation for being Alabama's highest point. It is no wonder that the local Creek Indians called the place Chaha, meaning "high place," and it is the summit of natural beauty and reverence in Alabama.
It is located south of the city of Mobile, about 30 miles north of Birmingham, on the Alabama-Georgia border, just east of I-85.

Cheaha, which has been in permanent operation since 1933, is the oldest continuous state park in Alabama. This paved the way for the state of Alabama to acquire land that now comprises 11 of its 22 parks, and Cheaha is one of them.

The Cleburne Room in the restaurant can accommodate meetings and banquets for up to 40 guests and can be used for weddings and other occasions. All food and beverages must be purchased at Cheaha Restaurant outside the food. A full menu, including the menus prescribed by the National Park rules, as well as a list of special events is available upon request.

The building is best known as a wedding chapel, but for events the gas fireplace gives the feeling of a retreat. Equipped with benches, speakers can see anyone and make eye contact and talk to anyone in the room.

Food and drink are not allowed in the building, but groups can use the piano and organ and play music from a piano or organ in a private room.

Bed linen and towels are changed, but daily cleaning is not available, and the cabins at Cheaha have an ironing board and washing machine, as well as a toilet and shower.

You are invited to buy firewood or bring your own, but the bundles sold in the store fit in the fireplace, and some do not.

Cabins 1 - 4 are located on the western cliff of the mountain, where guests can watch spectacular sunsets. The Queen bed is the largest in the room and the King bed the smallest, with a Queen size bed and a King size bed.

It is also known as one of the most popular cottages in the park and the only one with a double bed and a king size bed.

Each cabin has a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom and a queen size bed. Cottages # 5 and # 6 have a single bed with a double bed and a king size bed and a full bathroom. Cabins # 7 - 10 are located in a chalet in the park and each cabin has two bedrooms, a bathroom, fully equipped kitchens and bathrooms, an outdoor shower and an indoor / outdoor pool.

The chalet offers scenic beauty and nature with an indoor / outdoor pool, ironing boards, a picnic table and a fireplace. In the Bluff Side Cabins, each cabin has a large room to sleep and relax. Each of the two cabins is furnished with a queen-size bed, a TV and a DVD player.

Each of the three chalets is also equipped with a fireplace and gas connection, as well as an indoor / outdoor pool and a picnic table with picnic tables.

Chalets are ideal for guests who prefer not to go up and down steep paths and stairs, but also for those who do not. Chalet # 15 offers a well lit path to the chalet top and a picnic table with picnic tables as well as an indoor / outdoor pool and picnic table.

The traditional fireplace is furnished with wood from the forest, which is sold in the park's country store, and wood for the chimney of the cottage.

Chalet 11 is wheelchair accessible and has a well-lit ramp and is also equipped with an ADA-approved shower, widened doors and lowered appliances for easy access.

There is no traditional fireplace, but you are invited to buy firewood or bring your own. Firewood can be purchased at the park's firehouse or at one of the many local fireplaces, and wood is sold at the parkland or in the store.

The bundles sold in the store can be mounted to the fireplace in various shapes and sizes, from small to medium size and from large to small.

Motorcyclists, cyclists and hikers enjoy the wonders of the Alabama summit, and the restaurant is open year-round - and known for its casual attire.

During the season and at weekends, a buffet breakfast is served, and out of season, the buffet breakfast is also served.

The menu includes steaks, catfish, pasta, hamburgers and more; try the deep-fried tomato sandwich or order at the restaurant.

Groups are welcome in the dining room and wine and beer are served, but alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the designated meeting rooms. A group of volunteers will be available to help plan the buffet, provide information about the buffet and organize group meals. For more information, please email or call the Public Relations Office of the Chechnya National Park at (888) 762-5555.

The Blackberry sundae is the reason to head to the mountains, but the two-mile drive takes guests to all the park's amenities, including Chechnya National Park Lodge, Blackberries and White Mountain Lodge. All are within walking distance and have a picnic area, picnic tables, a café, an outdoor dining area and a car park.

Most pitches are equipped with barbecue and fire rings and located near the observation tower across the road, this campsite offers easy access to two bathhouses. Located in the Bunker Loop Campground as a full-service campsite, the campsite offers easier access than the two bathhouses.

The campsite is located at the lookout tower off the road and offers a picnic area, picnic tables, a café, an outdoor dining area and a parking lot.

Guests staying overnight have access to the pool and hotel restaurant, and the swimming pool is open from 8: 00 to 21: 00 and is open until 19: 30.

Cheaha State Park does not offer beach towels, so bring your own, but the outdoor pool is open from 8: 00 to 21: 30 and until 19: 45.

The pool is open for swimming and boating from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The six-hectare artificial lake was first used as a recreational area in the 1950s and 1960s. Cheaha Lake cools down to a depth of about 400 meters at the end of the day.

You must bring your own towel, adults must be accompanied by an adult over 12 years of age, and no entrance fee is charged for guests who do not stay overnight.

This six hectare lake was excavated by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) and offers beautiful views of the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean as well as a variety of animal species. Families can enjoy picnics, sunbathing, swimming and splashing around in the heart of Chicheha State Park, just a short walk from the park's main entrance.

This six hectare lake is home to a variety of fish, birds, reptiles, amphibians and birds of prey, as well as a number of birds and reptiles.

Due to the size of the lake, electric powered hand boats are only allowed, but Alabama law requires anglers over 16 years of age to have a valid fishing license obtained in the state of Alabama. Clay County Lake is located on the west side of Clay State Park, north of Chatham County. Overnight guests can use the amenities of this lake for free and fish, as well as fish and the amenities of the lake free of charge.
