About Cary State Forest

The Cary State Forest is managed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission as a wildlife control area. Three primitive campsites are located in the State Forest of Cary, one on the west side of the park and two on its east side. The ecosystem of CaryStateForest is diverse and includes a variety of plants, animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds. Other known species found in this forest are white and tail deer, yellow and throat viruses, black and leg cats, red and eye-winged, blue-footed, brown and nose hawks, grey squirrels, white fox, coyotes, peregrine falcons, raccoons, owls, hawks, squirrels, eagles, foxes, turkeys, wild boars, deer and other birds of prey.

There are no toilets or showers and no permit from the state forest is required to use the campsites. Reservations are recommended, although all campsites are generally available according to the "first come, first served" principle.

The outdoor teaching pavilion was built and inaugurated in 1972 and is open to the public. The Forest Service is using the pavilions to improve the training of students and staff at Cary State Forest and Cary Community College. The Cary State Forest is located at the intersection of I-10 and US 301 in Cary, North Carolina, north of Jacksonville. To get to Jacksonville, take US-301 to the parking lot of Cary Community College and then I / 10 to I-10 to Cary State Park.
