Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park is one of the most popular destinations in the state of Wisconsin, home to the largest freshwater lake in the world and the largest lake in Wisconsin.

Leslie and Perry County reservoirs cover 550 hectares, the seasonal pool is 1,230 hectares and the dam is at its maximum base. On January 18, 1961, the Kentucky State Parks Board approved the construction of Buckhorn Lake State Resort Park on the site of the former Leslie Reservoir. The area had to be repopulated since then due to its proximity to the lake and its location on the southern edge of Kentucky.

The Kentucky Department of Highways built a road up the hill to the park and it took two years to stabilize the road so it could be used for commercial traffic. In the early 1960s, however, the park's seclusion made access difficult, and the parks did not officially open until 1965.

Buckhorn Lake State Park covers 856 acres in the lush Kentucky highlands and is located on the eastern edge of Buckhorn County, Kentucky, south of the city of Louisville. The name of this park and the nearby town derives from the discovery of a hornhorn near a nearby salt lake. It is told how a four-metre long goat, which gave its name to the community, was killed.

Buckhorn Lake offers excellent fishing and the surrounding forest is full of wildlife, with a variety of bird species, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds of prey and fish.

In August 1964, Buckhorn Lake had a total population of about 2,000 people and an annual income of $1.5 million. On 22 May 1967, the Ministry of Commerce, Administration and Economic Development approved a project to develop the park, and in August 1968 a new system of trails for horse riding and hiking in the parks and a water park were added.

A limited number of lodge rooms are available for pets, and rooms are available in the late afternoon. The pool at the lodge is reserved for guests staying in cottages, but there is a limited amount of space for dogs and cats.

The public beach has a bathhouse for visitors, and the beach is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and is open all year round - except in the summer months of July and August.

Water sports enthusiasts will find entertainment at Buckhornsee, water skiing, kayaking, canoeing, paddling and other water sports are available for all ages.

No Kentucky fishing license is required, but there is a fishing rental program where you can view free equipment.
