The park is easily accessible from Interstate 81 and offers access to a variety of water and land activities including hiking, biking, fishing and camping. Named after its namesake, Claytor Lake State Park, it is located on the west side of the state park system and offers a variety of activities for water and land enthusiasts. The park has a number of hiking trails as well as a wide range of other activities.

The lake and park are named after Graham Claytor (1886-1971), who was vice president of Appalachian Power and oversaw the construction of the dam. The Visitor Centre is located in the historic Howe House and there is also a Visitor Centre with information about the history and activities of the park, as well as access to a number of hiking trails and other activities.

The bathing season begins on Memorial Day weekend and runs daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Swimming is free for campers and cabin guests and is guaranteed until circumstances outside park control require the closure of bathing operations. In these circumstances, guests will be refunded swimming and swimming, campers and cabin guests will receive it free of charge. The area is beautiful with beautiful views of the Appalachian Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the west.

Every November, the lake is lowered by about five meters for maintenance, and during this time, usually for two weeks, fishing from the shore is difficult and it is impossible to start a boat from the beginning of Claytor Lake. If guests have particularly large boats, they can dock their boats in public and start at the public jetty in the parking lot.

Depending on the rain, the water level will normalize in time, but a valid Virginia fishing license is required and must be purchased when the marina opens. Bluefish, perch, black perch and white perch are popular sport fish found in the lake, as well as some other species.

Picnic areas include barbecue areas, drinking water and toilets, and several toilets and shelters are accessible for disabled people. Seven picnic huts can be rented for $10 a day or $15 a week for a total of $30 a month.

The accommodation capacity varies between 30 and 100 people, with the maximum capacity being 50 people per day, for a total of 30 dollars per month for two weeks.

The shelter rent does not include parking and bathing fees, and there are large and small accommodations available. Claytor Lake State Park has seven apartments with a maximum capacity of 30 people per month for a total of $30 for two weeks of rental. A large, small shelter is available on weekdays from 6 am to 6 pm and on weekends from 7 pm to 9 am.

The park also offers a special gazebo, which is very popular for weddings, but until then cancellation fees are due.

State Park Road ends at the park entrance and the two-mile trail is open all year round. White-tailed deer, elk, elk, bighorn sheep, wolves, coyotes and other wildlife are common, as are a variety of plants from around the world, some of which hibernate in Claytor Lake, such as wildflowers, shrubs, grasses, trees and turnips.
