About Kettle Moraine State Forest

For information on the diversion, see the Current Conditions page, and to see if the proposed route works best for you, see here. The Kettle Moraine State Forest is located 45 minutes north of Milwaukee, south of Milwaukee - Milwaukee International Airport.

The forest is internationally known for its unique glacier features, and visitors can enjoy and explore the rolling hills, lakes, forests, rivers, streams, ponds, streams and lakes. Help a friend on the moraine: The Kettle Moraine State Forest Trail, a 2.5 km trail, is a good start to explore the forest.

Mauthe Lake campsite has 137 pitches, including two camping pitches, a picnic area and a beach area equipped with play equipment. On the Indian plain there is a real tepee for rent, as well as a campsite with a pool, picnic tables, toilets, showers and toilets.

In winter, the trails are prepared for cross-country skiing, and hikers share the route with road cyclists. The trail is located on the east side of the Esker, in the heart of the State Forest Kessel moraine.

The New Fane Trail runs a series of moderately challenging circuits totalling 5.5 miles. A short connecting path allows access to the Ice Age trail, and cross-country skiing is on the way in the snow. This versatile system of paths is used by hikers and road cyclists throughout the season.

The Parnell Tower Trail starts at a series of steps leading to the highest point of the forest. The trail follows the Ice Age trail to a rustic backpacker hut, and the next trail is at the foot of the tower, about 1.5 miles from the trail.

G, the Zillmer Trail, consists of two trails: the Parnell Tower Trail and the Ice Age Trail, both about 1.5 miles from the tower.

The South Trail has picnic tables for barbecues and drinking water, and along the way there is a rustic backpack pad. In winter there is a groomed cross-country ski trail, a trail for snowshoeing and snowmobiling and a picnic area. Visitors can walk this route from the Parnell Tower Trail to the Ice Age Trail or vice versa.

This moderate - to difficult - course leads to winding slopes on the moraine, which fall into deep water basins. It crosses the length of the forest and can be closed for hunting with firearms, fishing, camping, hiking and other recreational activities.
