About Jekyll Island State Park Authority

Jekyll Island is a barrier island off the southeast coast of Georgia and home to the Georgia State Park Authority (GSA) and the state's only state park. Jek Hyde Island is the island's administrative body, which oversees its natural areas and commercial activities. In the 1950s, the State Park Administration was established in Georgia to administer and manage the islands.

Jekyll Island was bought by a group of millionaires in the 1930s to be used as an exclusive private retreat known as the Jeksyll Island Club. In 1947, the state of Georgia bought it from the Jekyls Island Club and the island itself was purchased again - owned by the Georgia State Park Authority.

Some parts of Jekyll are now part of the Historic District, which is now under the Georgia State Park Authority's Historic Landmarks and Historic Places Program.

It operates several facilities, including a water park, and provides emergency medical services for fire and rescue services. The authority oversees the maintenance and operation of Jekyll Island State Park and its facilities. It maintains and maintains the Georgia State Parks and Recreation Department and a number of other state parks in the area.
