About Hope Island State Park

Hope Island State Park is one of the largest and most scenic parks in the state of New York, with over 1,500 acres of open space and more than 2,000 acres for hiking and biking.

The island is wooded with occasional meadows and rocky outcrops, and the park is covered with old, growing forest. The park has a beach of one - and - half a kilometre in length and offers a variety of hiking and cycling trails as well as a number of picnic areas and picnic tables.

The island is also home to a number of animal species, including sea lions, sea turtles and sea otters, as well as birds of prey.

Pets are not allowed on the island, but pets can be kept safely and responsibly at Hope Island State Park and other state parks.

In 1841, Commander Charles Wilkes named Hope Island after one of his crew members, and his ship, the USS Hope, was busy mapping Puget Sound.

The park has four campsites with four campsites, four picnic areas and one picnic area, as well as a hiking, biking, canoeing and kayaking trail.

Two vaulted toilets are available, but open fires are not allowed on the island and water is not available. There is also the Cascade Marine Trail, which is only available to canoeists and kayakers, and a hiking trail.

Check-in is at 14: 30, check-out is at 13: 00, and the quiet hours are 22: 00 - 06: 30. The campsites are served first, but the length of stay is extended if you stay longer than two days or more than a week, as provided for in the parking regulations. A motor-driven electric generator can be operated up to 12 hours a day, seven days a week, at a time.

The park has moorland and five buoys; berths, moorings and floating buoys are available in the parking lot and on the shore near the beach and in front of the campsite. The park, which has 10,000 square meters of parking space, also has permits to moor. The park also offers five buoy parking spaces, with a maximum of five per hectare, for up to four boats.

Two vaulted toilets are available in the parking lot and on the shore near the beach and in front of the campsite. Water is not available, open fires are not allowed on the island and tables are the first to come, come and serve.

The hotel is located on the west side of Hope Island State Park, north of the parking lot and south of a small beach.
